Today, HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the Royal Three Counties Show, made a visit to RHS Malvern Spring Festival at Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Worcestershire.
During the visit, The Princess Royal toured several newly awarded RHS show gardens, including Best in Show, The Hide Garden by Cotswold designer and first time Malvern entrant Emily Crowley-Wroe.
The tour included Silver Gilt Medal gardens by Karen Tatlow and Jamie Langlands. The Cancer Research UK Legacy Garden is a peaceful and immersive space designed by Karen Tatlow and is designed to celebrate people who leave a gift in their will, which in turn helps to fund life-saving research. The Peaceful Escape Garden in contrast offers a modern and intimate space to relax, with evergreen and soft serene planting to create a relaxing and contemplative feeling.
The highlight of the visit was a new permanent garden at Three Counties that has been commissioned by the showground to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The Platinum Jubilee Garden is filled with her Majesty’s favourite plants, shrubs and trees as well as those that are named after her. The garden is supporting the learning of two apprentices who prepared the planting for the garden as part of their coursework for Pershore College.
The Princess Royal also planted a ‘Acer Campestre, Queen Elizabeth’ tree as part of The Queens Green Canopy Platinum Jubilee Initiative.
Ken Nottage, Chief Executive of Three Counties said: “It has been a real honour to host HRH The Princess Royal at the 35th RHS Malvern Spring Festival and both the RHS and Three Counties are exceptionally pleased that the new Platinum Jubilee Garden, has joined the Green Canopy Initiative, with The Princess Royal adding a tree to this new permanent space. Our combined teams will never forget this exceptional day. Today’s planting will be something to look on with pride over the next few years, as the garden grows and matures.”
